Seem to have damaged the Twitter plug-in on my blog. It has disappeared! Moral? Blog more often so I don’t forget where everything is.

Barack Obama - a global man for global times?

So, Barack Obama is the new President of the USA. Listening this morning to the Thought for the Day Slot on the BBC’s Today programme, the speaker John Bell made me aware that this is even more momentous than I had thought. It’s not just a case of first black US president. From a world point of view, it’s the international interconnections that make this event even more amazing.

Here’s what John Bell had to say. Obama is of mixed parentage - black and white. He’s a man of two nations - Kenya and USA and from two different continents. He has a passport, which is not necessarily true of all Americans, has travelled widely in and outside USA, and he was raised in Hawaii which is a unique place. He brings together many different threads - a truly global man for our global society.

Let’s hope he is able to bring about some positive global changes too.

The credit crunch and the ancient teachings.

Looking at what’s going on with the credit crunch, I am struck by how it demonstrates so clearly some of the ancient teachings we’ve maybe forgotten.

As a student and teacher of Huna, the ancient spiritual and healing practices of the Hawaiians, I’m conscious of how much they have in common with other ancient teachings of the world, like Daoism, the Indian Vedic teachings, and the teachings of many peoples such as the Native American Indian people and others.
